The approach

Defining the problem

Defining the problem

Vloggi needed a re-design of the current existing app to better target and attract ‘Vloggers’, as well as communicate the main benefits of Vloggi to the end users.
Steps needed to be taken:

  • Current market research
  • Conduct user interviews to understand product demand
  • Usability test existing app and identify existing problems
  • Rethink user flow and potential personas
  • Re-think current Information Architecture
  • Re-design existing user interface

Usability testing & Interviews

Usability testing & Interviews

Current app testing

Initial problem statement

I conducted usability testings of the existing app on 10 various people. A mix of professional travel vloggers as well as people who don't know much about vlogging. During the testing, I asked users to complete the following tasks :

Having only spoken to a few market goers at this point, we presumed stall holders were facing the same problem. Leading us to assume the initial problem to be:

  • Sign up to Vloggi
  • Create a Vloggi and upload
  • Edit profile page

Key findings:

  • Purpose of Vloggi was unclear
  • Unsure of how the app worked
  • No real intention to use the app
  • UI in general was difficult to understand

Personas

Personas

Who would use Vloggi?

We sorted and collated our information from interviews and testings and identified 2 main users for Vloggi as 'Vloggers' or 'Creators'. We identified them as the main end users that will drive success for Vloggi. The Professional travel vlogger VS The Casual vlogger.

Common Trigger

Looking at the two main end users, we realised the two personas each have very different goals / needs that they would want from Vloggi, however, a common theme both the professional and the casual vlogger have in common is the idea of potentially making money from videos. Based on this, we recreated a new user flow keeping in mind the end goal for these users.

Proposed user flow

The newly proposed user flow based on our previous research allows the users to have various options when using Vloggi, providing 'sticky features' as well as simplifying tasks for the two various personas.

Re-design & Final testing

Re-design & Final testing

Re-design & final testing

I re-designed the user interface keeping in mind the language used, hierarchy of themes, tasks and how to effectively best communicate the idea and purpose of Vloggi without confusing the end users.

Final prototype

Final prototype

The final prototype delivered is a starting point of a new user interface for Vloggi, re-creating and communicating the key benefits of Vloggi to the user. The client was satisfied and is potentially taking this design further.
